Transition from bassinet to crib

My son is only 5 months old. My plan was to keep him in my room until 8-10 months but he is outgrowing his bassinet. He is constantly hitting the sides with his hands and feet when he moves and it wakes him up and it’s hell trying to get him back to sleep. He does it multiple times in the middle of the night. I’m nervous trying to move him into his own room so early. He takes naps in his crib so I know he would be ok and used to it - but I know it’s also important to have him in our room from 6 months to a year. But I’m not quite sure what else to do. Have any of you moved your babies early? Or do you have any advice on what else I could do? I would move his crib in our room but we have a really old house with a very small bedroom and it won’t fit.
