Genetic Testing??

Hey all!! I’m 13 weeks with my first babe, I’ve been reading about everyone having tests and what tests I could have in my first trimester.... well my first appointment was at 11 weeks and we didn’t do any testing of any kind?? Is that weird?? I had a blood test at 6 weeks-ish, they confirmed pregnancy and tested for like std’s but as far as I know they didn’t do any kind of genetic testing. My ultrasound at 11 weeks was in office and besides heart beat and measuring they didn’t do like the NT test. Did I need to request stuff like this? Is it not standard procedure??

It’s only if you’re high risk for the genetic testing. You can request it, only some doctors offices do it. It can be super super expensive though

Some offices offer genetic testing as a standard procedure. It is pricy though so you’d want to see if your insurance covered any of it. My doctor with my first pregnancy told me about it at my first appointment. I had different doctor in a new state for my second pregnancy. It wasn’t mentioned, but we saw a sign in the office for it. I’m young and healthy, but insurance covered both for me. I was never offered the NT scan either place, I assume they won’t if you do the genetic testing bloodwork.

They did the NT scan at 12 weeks, that seems to be common procedure. They did ask if we wanted to do the genetic testing so we could have but decided against it.

Idk where you live but in Australia it’s just kinda of a standard, I think it was around AUD$100ish but I didn’t pay for it (I was meant to but the bill never came so 🤷‍♀️)

If you want it done you have to request it and be sent to a high risk office for testing.

They can offer it to you or you can request it but theirs a time frame in which you have to get it done in. I opted out of genetic testing with my first and this pregnancy as well. It’s overall a personal decision .

It was standard for me , and I wasn’t high risk. But after being on this app  I know many other practices aren’t like that. Usually you’ll have to request it and it can be expensive if your insurance doesn’t cover it.
