My MIL normally does things without our permission, there for that’s why she never left alone with our daughter (11m old) I have made it clear I don’t want our daughter in a bikini till she is older. Right now we just do swimming diapers anyways. Well she went and bought her a bikini and is trying to guilt trip us until putting her into it next time we are there by saying her Great Great Grandma hopes I let her try it on while we visit next time. I am I overreacting by being pissed she bought it and is trying to guilt trip me into doing something I’m not comfortable doing with our daughter?

I mean if you’re not comfortable with it don’t do it. But, I personally don’t see the big deal. It’s a baby bikini they look cute as heck with all their little rolls and chunkiness! It’s only weird if you make it weird 🤷🏽‍♀️

You may be overreacting a tiny bit. One thing you'll learn in parenthood is to pick your battles wisely. Is a her buying her granddaughter a bikini that big of a deal to cause ill feelings and animosity, do you truly think she did so just to spite you? If you feel in your heart of hearts this is a battle that needs to be fought then so be it, but with in laws at some point you just gotta let that shit go. At least she loves and wants to buy things for her granddaughter. My in laws don't even receive pictures of their grandchildren.

Nope for 2 reasons. 
1.I'm old school I guess and think it's stupid for babies to be dressed like that. It's a BABY
2. Babies skin is soooo sensitive you should really keep them covered and protected from the sun

If it’s important to you not to have her in a baby bikini then stand your ground. I think they are a little weird too but probably would let her try it on. I wouldn’t regularly use it at the beach or pool though since it isn’t even really practical for a baby to have that much exposed skin in the sun. If that is something you have a strong opinion on though then I’d stand your ground then and tell her you have already told her you aren’t comfortable with doing so. If she continues to bring it up I would continue to repeat that you don’t feel it’s appropriate for your daughter at her age and would like to stop discussing it. Have your husband back you on it which can help end the discussion. She may be upset and talk bad about you so be prepared but at the end of the day it’s just a swimsuit and it’s your choice what your daughter does and wears. She can get over it and it’s a good way to start setting boundaries with her if she’s going to be a tricky grandma.

They make baby bikinis? We have a tankini where the top is short sleeved as opposed to a tank. And its spf 50 or 70 (cant remember which). Baby skin is so sensitive. I wouldn't have my baby in one either. No matter who wants to see her in it.

I don’t think you’re overreacting by not wanting your baby girl in a bikini, but I do think you’re overreacting being pissed that your MIL bought one. Let her waste her money if she wants, but if you have no plans to have your child wear it then don’t waste your energy being pissed about it
