Dumped

So I got together with this guy for the second time. He told me he wouldn’t hurt me this time and that he would talk to me about all the problems to try and work them through. He made me believe he was going to do things right this time and he just dumps me out of the blue. I truly love this guy and I’m stuck because I feel stupid for taking him back. What should I do to get over him. I’d also love to know what I could do so we could still be friends, me and him were very close friends prior to dating.
