Pregnancy announcement to immediate family -- too soon?

Question

We are traveling to visit my family this weekend (mom, sister, and their SOs), and we're planning to share the big news with them. I made a shirt to sneak on my little niece, but now I'm suddenly terrified that this is too soon. We will be 9 wks, but we don't have our first doctors appt until 11 wks. What if there isn't actually a baby in there? This is our first BFP after trying for 2 years, so anxiety is running a bit high. Obviously I would want their support if anything were to happen, but I am just so scared of jinxing it with celebration.

I announced & I'll be 8 weeks Saturday...I also had u/s and seen heartbeat! I would go for it but do what makes u comfortable maybe plan a dinner after your apt & do the same thing....

Hi all, thank you for your help! Just wanted to update you all. We ended up telling each set of parents and siblings over three consecutive weekends, and I have 0 regrets. It's been nice being able to talk to my mom, sister, and SIL about everything, and if anything were to happen I know I would need them. Our first ultrasound is Wednesday, so considering all is good, we will announce to our friends and extended family then. Thanks again!!

I would tell them it’s ur family it’s not like u r announcing on social media and like u say if anything were to happen u would need there support I’ve had 2 miscarriages 1 with my first and we told everyone very silly was awful people coming up to us asking how the pregnancy was when we had lost☹️ then had 4 healthy pregnancies then had another miscarriage and hadn’t told anyone and I really struggled dealing with the loss on my own and wish I had told my mum and sisters u won’t jinx it by celebrating what will b will b regardless! Go and celebrate with ur family❤️

Your call but I have always told my family immediately. I think if something were to happen I would want them to know anyway as well as them know, to help with the healing process. You can always go get a scan at a private ultrasound place, they do them as early as 6 weeks and cost about $75-$100

I called my mom and my sister the day I got my positive test at 3 weeks six days 🙈 obviously that was so crazy early, but I have had a miscarriage before and I knew I would want their support no matter what happens! If you have a good relationship with your fam (sounds like you do) I think you will be happy if you tell them, no matter what happens 😊 good luck!

It depends on who you want to support you if you loose the baby. We had a miscarriage in Dec and told our immediate family and a good chunk of friends and it made such a difference having all their support around me through that tragedy.

That’s a tough one. Personally for me, I didn’t want to tell my family (who I’m really close with) because I knew they would be super excited. If something happened then it would be a huge let down for me and for them. I just don’t want to get too excited, too early. You do what you feel is right. I am 9.4 weeks and we won’t get an ultrasound till 10.3 weeks so we plan on telling family after that.

We are in the exact same boat!!! I will be 9w at Easter and we are announcing to parents and siblings then. I don't have my first Dr appt until 10w2d, so likely no U/S until after 11w. We have been TTC for 18months, and my family has supported us so much. I wish I had an U/S or doppler to confirm a heartbeat before announcing, but sadly we won't. 
I figured it was a nice time to announce when everyone is together for Easter. Worst case scenario, if this pregnancy proves not to be viable, I will want their support too - so them knowing is inevitable.

Idk I had a miscarriage so I’m keeping it a secret until I am at-least 15 weeks. Why don’t you wait until you have your appointment? It’s hard enough to deal with losing a child and explaining what happened if you announce too early is nothing I’d ever want to go through.

We announced it to our immediate families right when we found out. We just couldn’t hide it because we are so close with our families. And we figured if anything were to happen we would have all the support we need. Waiting to announce to the world until second trimester thought.
