Is it shitty if I talk to a guy who goes to my ex's school?

I matched with a guy on Tinder who goes to my ex's school (very small military service academy that's about an hour from my college). My ex and I are super good friends/on very good terms (we only dated for a bit) but it ended badly bc he didn't want to get exclusive and found out I had texted back and forth a bit with another guy from his school and he freaked and ended things even though we weren't official or exclusive. Anyway, this guy who goes to his school is cute and lives super close to me at home (we both go to college about 2 hours away) but I don't know if it's scummy for me to talk to him because of the way things ended or if he'd feel like I'm betraying him or anything? I value our friendship more than a random tinder guy anyway. I don't know how I would tell him and I'm scared he'd be upset or mad or uncomfortable. I did some digging and they follow eachother on Instagram but they're not friends to my knowledge. What do you guys think? Thanks for any
