If your child has a high fever, do you take him in?

If your child has a high fever more than 101. Do you take him in or wait it out? I personally take him in.

I don’t. I don’t think it is necessary to take a child in just for a fever. The body is doing what it needs to do. If there were other symptoms, it was lasting a while, or really y high that would be different. If I was getting worried I would call the phone nurse and speak with them first.

Double dose Tylenol or ibuprofen. If it hasn’t gone down in an hour I call the after hours clinic and ask them. If I don’t like their answer, then in we go.

100.4 for a newborn or small infant. 101 isn’t high for a toddler-teen.

What age is your child? Typically fevers run their course. If it’s a newborn, you should be extra cautious. A fever is the body’s way of fighting infection. If the child is older, and the duration and high temperature (103F+) lasts longer than a few days, always take them into the doctor. Again, a lot depends on the age and other variables. Usually anything under 103F for a child that’s not a newborn can be normal. Alternating Tylenol and Motrin can bring the fever down, and make the child more comfortable. It won’t break the fever however. Ultimately, if it’s just a virus, it will run its course. ❤️

Depends on many things such as how active the child is and other symptoms. A doctor can’t do much for a fever. Nothing worse than taking an unwell child to the doctor where they are waiting and exposed to others germs for a simple fever.
