perineal massage?

Hello , I was told to do some perineal massages up until I give birth  & I would like to know if doing that actually helps. 
Like Did it actually prevent you from tearing ? Or getting an episiotomy?

I don’t think it possibly could have made a difference. What you can do with massage is like a drop in the ocean compared to the stretching of the baby coming out.

My doula told me it’s less about stretching yourself out before and more about getting familiar with the sensation of it so when you’re in labor you know what that sensation is and don’t try to push the baby out too fast which can cause tearing when your body isn’t given the time to slowly stretch. Not sure it would matter if you’re getting an epidural and wouldn’t be feeling that sensation? Who knows. That’s just what I was told.

I wish I had done them, my husband did it once. Before baby was about to crown I noticed my doctor was doing the massage in hopes of easing the stretch. I got a 2nd degree tear, so ya..it would definitely help if you do it frequently before birth

I didn’t do it, 9p 7 baby and no tearing. It’s all to do with your body and baby, the messages may help but at the end of the day I put it down to genetics.
