Car trips

I'm super paranoid when my child goes anywhere in a car because I worry about car accidents. My MIL gets so offended when I ask her to let me know when they make it anywhere. IV told her I just want to know they made it safe.. Am I really offending her or am I just an over reactive parent? Just made me feel bad when I ask to send me a text. Also DH is 4 years old.
