Please help me understand ....

Why can’t I get over my ex?

Do some people just never get over their ex’s?

Im the one who broke up with him and it’s been a year and half. We basically dated for 3ish years. I thought I would be over him and I honestly thought I was but anytime I remember he has a new girlfriend and anytime I see a picture of them together it still makes me anxious and sick to my stomach. I still cry over him randomly. He was my first boyfriend and maybe that’s why? I’m just afraid I made a mistake or something. I just can’t understand why I am still hung up on him after I broke up with and totally thought I was over him.

So I do have a boyfriend and I honestly started dating him soon after my ex because this guy and me met and started to get along really well. We have been dating for 8 months now. I felt happy with him but I keep having stupid dreams about my ex randomly and things about him still upset me.

I know what u are going to say... break up with my boyfriend. But that’s not the advice I’m really asking for. I’m just asking for everyone to be kind and understanding.

I guess I’m asking if anyone has been though this and how do you find out who u truly want to be with without any confusion? Like how do you know if something was a mistake or not? I’m not a good decision maker and im just so sick of caring about my ex and I don’t want to, I just want to be happy.

I’m thinking maybe it’s an attention thing? Like my ex used to be super sweet and be kind of “obsessed” with me. He would always post pictures of me and say how much he loves me and how beautiful I am. He would also 24/7 compliment me and tell me he would marry me. I kinda get jealous maybe? I’m trying to understand if I actually still have real feelings for him or it’s just me being jealous and stupid.
