Can you check your privilege without getting defensive?

It's hard to do, but you're on another level if you can be real about having any kind of advantage others might not have.
I used to be confused and defensive over the assertion I had privileges, but like, it's a very realistic and inevitable thing as I see it now.

Yea i think its productive. But its not productive to dismiss someones feelings or life experiences or hardships because they are privelaged.

It’s hard to do if you don’t really understand what privilege means or that there are different kinds of it. When I first heard the term “white privilege,” I thought it was ridiculous because I grew up poor. Then I learned that racial privilege is different than economic privilege, and that there can be all kinds of different privilege, and that just because someone has it, it doesn’t mean their life hasn’t been hard or they haven’t worked for everything they have. It just means that certain things haven’t been set against them from the get go. It took me a long time to understand this. 
As for actively checking it, I really try. Sometimes it takes a real slap in the face for me to realize that I’m being ignorant. It’s an ongoing battle for me, but it’s definitely something I’m actively striving to get much better at.

To be 100% real and honest here, I have only started doing it whilst on this app. I definitely think it is super important to do and isn’t hard at all. It’s only hard when you don’t understand others struggles and aren’t exposed to such a thing. This is why when people get defensive, sometimes it’s because they simply don’t understand or have never been exposed.
