Doctor said it is dangerous??

I asked my doctor ways to help labor along. I brought up nipple stimulation and he about freaked. He said that it is actually dangerous to do. The reason he gave was because you won't know how much of (whatever it is) is given off and it is causing very bad contractions and is killing babies in the womb. Anyone else hear of this ?

I think that is ridiculous. When I was in labor and it was not progressing, my doctor as well as a number of nurses recommended nipple stimulation, which didn't work at all. Inducing your labor with drugs such as Pitocin is what is dangerous.

Your doctor sounds ridiculous. I've never heard this. Castro oil is the only thing known to have bad side effects for baby. But nipple simulation? So you and your SO can't have any type of foreplay? Dumb doctor.

The natural chemical released during nipple stimulation oxytocin is similar to the synthetic drug they use to induce labour. The difference is the synthetic pitocin is not self regulated in the body, oxytocin is. Therefore pitocin is more likely to cause bad, strong contractions, not natural oxytocin that helps bonding and controlled uterine contractions.

I HAVE actually read that it could be dangerous. Didn't read why thought. I don't know, I'd listen to your Dr.

It's been said it can cause such strong and long contractions it can over stress the uterus and baby lowering the heart rate. Doing so not monitored could cause the HR to drop without your knowledge. Not much as far as proof in this in studies or it was rather minimal. Some would def say better safe then sorry.

I did it at I think 38 weeks and not a thing happened, not even a cramp. He's overreacting, I know a TON of people that did it and are fine

That is insane it doesn't kill babies. But to help labor along walking was the best for me and a warm long shower eased pain. I did an all natural birth and that's how I prepared.

I have asked my doctor as well as other opinions never heard that.. I was told your body will go into labor once it's ready

At this point my husband is a sperm donor lol. I have bad problems with my hips so he does his thing lol. When I got home I read up on it and there have been cases. I'm curious if anyone has any knowledge of it.
