Our hybrid came early (JapanXAustralia birth story)

Lo

My pregnancy journey since the start of this week has been insane, I’m still trying to grasp a hold of everything that happened myself.

On Monday I went in for my normal checkup where I was told babies measurements were dangerously behind.

On Tuesday I went for a checkup with a specialist where they confirmed, then diagnosed IUGR and made another appointment on Friday for a checkup.

On Wednesday baby was reaching his kick counts but was much weaker than usual, when he didn’t liven up at around 7 (no matter how quiet he had been during the rest of the day, that’s the time he would always get energetic) I begun to really worry, I tried juice, cold water, laying down in every way and then I got a 3kick in 1 hour kick count.

I got DH to ring the specialist doctor and she said to come to the nicu to be checked out.

The tests on Wednesday night showed that the condition of the cord and placenta had decreased significantly in just that one day, I was to be admitted into hospital but it would probably be a week till my baby would be born.

Thursday morning begins, the nurse comes early in the morning for the heartbeat check and says that his heart is doing fine, I feel relieved and eat.

Shortly after the specialist comes in and said she got the last of the results from last nights test and that they were more concerning that originally anticipated, I should ring DH because they were going to deliver baby that day!

I was shocked and shaken, my doctor assured me that my little one was doing fine and that’s why the wanted to deliver him so soon while he was still strong before he starts to really struggle with the bad placenta and cord.

I rang DH who left work and rushed to the hospital, the wonderful team of nurses and doctors prepped me and took me into the delivery room while DH needed to wait outside nervously.

In the end my little man was born on Thursday the 27th at 11:35 just before mid day.

Weighing in at only 1402g, but fighting strong.

The moment I heard him cry was a insane moment of absolute joy because I knew at that moment he was ok.

On Friday I spent most of the day in recovery, but me and DH were able to visit the NICU together for the first family time together, I was able to pump and bub was able to feed.

Now it’s Saturday morning, I woke up still in pain, the csection pain is really kicking my ass but it’s all 100% worth it.

And I’m looking forward to spending more time with my DH and my little man.

He is able to breath by himself but is on oxygen for a little bit of extra assistance, the doctor says his condition is good and they hope to be able to keep him out of the incubator soon.
