Do you let your baby look at screens?

Is there anything wrong with it? I just feel wrong when I do. I have a 10 week old and sometimes in the evenings when i start getting exhausted and he’s done napping until bedtime, he just finds the TV. I just need to relax while he’s not hungry or fussy in the evenings. He really likes screens. Should I let him look at them? Do you? Is it bad for babies?

It’s not great for them. It is recommended no screen time until like 3, I think. But let’s be honest...it happens. My 3 month old is sooo curious about the sounds and colors. I try hard not to let her watch TV when it is on, I will just divert her attention by reading a book. But I usually let her have 15 minutes a day of watching nursery rhymes on Netflix or YouTube, just so I can unload the dishwasher, switch the laundry, go to the restroom, etc. Don’t beat yourself up about small doses of it. We are only human, and sometimes we just want to poop alone. 😂

It’s recommended not to let babies watch TV until 3, even educational shows. The pathways aren’t “set” until that age - their brain is what is known as neuroplastic. After 3 it is harder to change the pathways formed. We went 6 months with no screens at all, but now I let my daughter watch 3 stories (literally just people reading with no background music) on YouTube while I clean the downstairs area because her playroom is upstairs and I don’t like leaving her up there & she gets bored playing on her own before I can finish cleaning. Early screen introduction is also linked to delayed speech because they can’t differentiate between background noise and words, making it all sound like a muffled mess. I didn’t know this until I started working with a few autistic kids and took them to speech therapy.

We do Elmo’s World and he enjoys it. I don’t see anything wrong with that. I’m always there with him and it’s for like 5 mins and then he gets uninterested. But at first, he loves seeing Elmo!

I let my daughter watch sometimes. Sometimes mommy just needs to eat without little hands grabbing at my lunch. I don’t do it daily and I don’t do it for long. It’s truly only if I need 10 mins 🤷🏻‍♀️

You can put something educational. We bought a few speech therapy dvds that my kids watch when I need a break or a shower or to clean

My daughter is 2 and she’s always asking for her tablet. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I think it’s okay just not allll day I’m sure long term use would mess with their eyes eventually. It’s all about moderation.
