Stethoscope to hear baby heartbeat?

Has anyone purchased or used a stethoscope to hear baby’s heartbeat? I know at home dopplers can be unreliable at times so was thinking a stethoscope is probably a better idea. Any thoughts? Recommendations? TIA!

My husband and I are nurses and I was freaking out one night because I hadn’t felt the baby move all day (this was probably around 23-24 weeks) so he suggested trying the stethoscope (good quality stethoscopes b/c of our jobs obviously) and neither of us had any luck. After about 5 minutes of trying though baby finally started kicking. I certainly know it’s possible to hear it with the stethoscope but I think it might add more stress and worry since it can be difficult to pick up so if you have to have something and are going to buy it I think the Doppler would be a little more user friendly.

Very hard to find with a regular stethoscope. Which is why providers used “fetoscopes” before dopplers were readily available. They’re the funny things where it looks like a funnel that goes on moms belly then a part that the doctor or midwife puts their forehead on, with ear pieces like a stethoscope.  A fetal doppler will honestly be cheaper than a nice stethoscope and much more reliable.

I used a fetal Doppler. I fell down a flight of stairs and was freaking out. It eased my mind when I was concerned. It was a nice bonding moment with my hubby too

The only thing unreliable about my Doppler is the numbers sometimes but you can definitely tell the difference between the baby and your heartbeat

I think it takes a lot of training to find it consistently. My husband is an ED doctor and he tried so many times with his old stethoscope to hear the babies heart beat and had very little luck. My mother in law is an L and D nurse and found it straight away every time.

Yes!! My aunt did this and could hear the heart around 23 weeks :)

From what I understand is the only way you'll find baby is if they are turned with there back up otherwise it's very difficult to find them. Pluse you'll need to be further along like well into the second trimester.
