Stuttering?

My 3 year old son recently started stuttering. He started while he was at his dads house, I didn’t notice it before. Now it’s happening all the time, almost like he’s doing it on purpose. I feel like he did it a few times, they made a big deal about it and now he’s doing it because it made a reaction. He was talking perfectly in full sentences before, he has since he was 2 and has never had a problem with stuttering until now. Has anyone had any experience with children stuttering?

My boyfriends youngest is 6 now and about a year ago he started stuttering. He never did before. He just came over one weekend and we noticed. Now we just ask him to speak a little slower and it will stop. I think it really just happens when he's too excited or gets sad / worked up. He just can't find the right words.

I stuttered as a child and still do a little bit. Could it be something he does when he's nervous? Or to fill in gaps in his sentences? I used to do it a lot to fill in places I couldn't think of the word to.
