When to take baby in for first dental apt?

My son is 9 months old and has 7 teeth. I thought I was told around 6 months, or whenever baby gets teeth, you start taking them to the dentist. I just called a pediatric dental office near me and they didn’t want to bring him in and told me that they at least wait until 1 year or if they are having any pain or if you have concerns with their teeth.

I thought I should bring him in already to get used to going to the dentist and have check ups every 6 months. But idk. Is that right?

Growing up I never went to the dentist. Like ever. I only went to get my wisdom teeth removed because of pain, and for root canals and I don’t want my son to experience all that pain.

But I’m just wondering when I should bring him in for his first visit.
