Family dr at birth for baby?

I see a family dr for my general medications and I love my dr so much! I asked and she said she does take newborn patients. But how would that work after L&D? Would my baby be checked by a ped dr then take the recordsto my dr or would I have to request her to come to the hospital?

The on call ped checked my daughter and managed her care while we were in hospital. Once discharged we moved to my family doctor and remained with her.

Our pediatrician comes to the hospital when our babies are born to check them. I assume it would be the same. Someone would notify your Dr and she'd come to check baby.

So you want her to be your child’s pediatrician? 
Usually unless your family doctor has pediatric privileges at the hospital you work at then typically here’s what happens: 
Doesn’t have privileges? 
* your baby will be seen by the on staff/on call pediatrician. From there you would have to have either your family doctor/pediatrician request a copy of your baby’s records or if you doctor has access to the hospital you deliver at computer charting system then they can just access it that way. 
If your family doctor/pediatrician as privileges: 
* just go have your baby and from there they will ask who your Pediatrician is and will notify your pediatrician. From there they can decide if they want to come see your baby then or let the house pediatrician see them and just resume care once baby is discharged. 
I had this with my first two sons. I worked with my PCP (primary care provider), she was also our pediatrician and also a personal friend. She even had adult privileges at my hospital. But she didn’t have pediatric privileges so the house doc saw our sons and she just did follow up care.
