Capturing kids hearts movement

Toast • *Black Lives Matter* and Happy Pride Month everyone!

I think that is what the school called it. Anyways I just went to a new school and they have this whole thing about having kids correct oneself behavior with hand symbols? And by having positive time and stuff. Remember this is in high school with kids that are legal adults.

• Instead of the teacher asking the kids to be quiet they are supposed to stand with their hands in a time out position and kids who acknowledge it are supposed to follow until the disruptive kids realize it.

• Teachers are supposed to talk about “Good Things” at the beginning of each class.

• When a student is being rude to another student. Kids are supposed to give him the sideways thumb or something. This means he is being mean and now has to stand and give two compliments to correct this behavior.

• THE SOCIAL CONTRACT. Students are supposed to discuss what traits are good and they would want to see in themselves and other peers then sign a paper with these traits on them. This means they are signing that they will be “good people” essentially.

There are other things that I haven’t caught onto yet I’m pretty sure. It’s all around correcting oneself behavior and having positive peer pressure I guess.

I’ve never seen this before and honestly idk how I feel about it. Like I understand using this on a 5th grade class but high schoolers? What are your thoughts on this?
