FMLA Maternity Leave Question

Ashley

I’ve requested a meeting with my company’s benefits department to discuss FMLA, but the wait for answers is killing me and I was hoping you ladies might have some insight to share in the meantime!

I know my company allows up to 12 weeks, unpaid FMLA for maternity and that you can use your saved leave to be paid during that time period. I’ve saved up enough sick and annual leave to cover the whole 12 weeks and was planning on using it...HOWEVER, I got a pamphlet from my doctor yesterday that said they will fill out FMLA paperwork for six weeks of leave and that extended leave is no longer considered medically necessary.

My question is, will my company only give me what my doctor says I need? My biggest concern is childcare, a lot of the day cares I have looked at won’t take infants under 12-15weeks and I literally have no family support as I live in Georgia and all my family is in California.

Any insight/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
