Is it rude to ask what you’re praying for when someone asks for prayers with no information?

I don't think it's rude to ask, but if they continue to decline to provide more information, then it's best to leave it alone and pray trusting that God already knows the issue. I don't like praying generically, but sometimes that's the only available option.

I’ve seen people pray saying something like “god you already know what they need” so it’s not like you need to know the details

Well typically id assume someone asking me for support would be doing so for me to say “are you ok?”. So I’d say “is everything ok?” Or “what’s going on?”. I wouldn’t think it’s rude no.

I dont think its rude to ask. But I personally dont like when someone says they need prayers but dont ask why. Or they say "unspoken prayer request.". Because if I dont know what it is.. im most likely not going to pray for you. Someone could want me to pray for something terrible and I have no idea. So no lol. Like they could be praying for the worst to happen to someone. Or for the world to end or something

I got confused and thought you meant is it rude to ask someone what they're praying about (like at the pew or whenever). That would be rude. But if someone asks you to pray for them? It would be nice to know that you're not praying for them to succeed in robbing a bank, but it's not that hard to send out "general" prayers/well wishes when they choose not to/do not wish to disclose the information. It may be that you're praying that their husband comes home sober tonight - that's a deeply personal thing that you don't necessarily want to disclose on the internet or to people who you know, but would judge you.

I meant to hit yes. If someone wanted to share the details of the situation they would. Sometimes it is a personal issue and they are simply asking for your support in the form of prayer.

Its not rude to ask, but if they dont want to share thats fine also. You dont need to know what they want prayers for.

If they don't want people asking why... Then they probably just shouldn't say anything about it, in the first place.
