90 hour labor, my son's birth story
So my son is a year old but I never shared his birth story anywhere. Currently 14 weeks with #2 and have loved reading everyone's birth stories on here! So at 37 weeks I had prodromal labor every night that would start after dinner and end around 8 am, it was exhausting. Contractions were painful and every 3-6 minutes but I was not dilated at all, turns out baby was turned the wrong way so I was told my body was trying to turn the baby. Monday morning my contractions didn't stop at 8 or any time after, I was 37+6. they were a little more intense to where I had to focus through them but they were extremely sporadic anywhere from right on top of each other to ten minutes apart. I saw my midwife that night to see if I was finally dilating and I was 2 cm! She said I was finally in early labor and to go home to see if I could keep things moving and get the contractions to become consistent. After Monday morning they never stopped just slowly got worse, I couldn't sleep was hardly eating and honestly spent those days walking around crying. I was exhausted, Wednesday morning I got checked again and was 5 centimeters so we were making more progress slowly but surely. I was so exhausted at that point I hardly remember Wednesday and Thursday but Thursday afternoon I threw up what I tried to eat, and couldn't get anything else down. I called my midwife and told her I thought it was finally time because contractions were getting more intense but she listened to me through them and said not yet. So I'm up all night in and out of the shower and at 3:00 am Friday morning my water breaks. I wake my husband and have him call my midwife and she asks to talk to me. I had two awful contractions on top of each other and she said to get in the car right away. It's an hour drive because we're in the country and that car ride was a nightmare, it still haunts me. The pain was so bad having to sit down I didn't think I could continue. We get there at 5:00 am and she checks me and I was 9 centimeters! I was so happy when I heard that I had no more doubts that I could do it. The lights were low, candles going and soft music, I got in the birthing tub which was amazing and my midwife left the room so it was just me and my husband. At 6 am I told my husband to get her because I was about to push, she comes in and I'm already pushing and 20 minutes later baby pops out. I picked him up out of the water and told my husband we had a boy (we didn't find out before). They helped me and baby to the bed and he was breathing fine, didn't need anything so I held him while I delivered the placenta. He didn't cry, just laid there looking around Then they examined the baby, gave him back to me and I slept in the bed for a couple hours. At 9 my midwife brought us breakfast and went over more stuff, paperwork I got a few stitches and then we went home! I slept for 3 hours straight that night and it felt miraculous after hardly sleeping for a week. I'm hoping that this next baby comes a little quicker than the first but I am using the same midwife and hoping for pretty much everything else to be the same♥️
