How to get my toddler to go to bed?

Question

I’m at wits end and may just have to start letting him cry it out. 
He’s 2 it’s 8:30. He had his pull up changed so he is dry. He has his milk in his sippy. I tucked him in. 10 mins later he gets up and starts crying at the gate by his door. Idk wtf else to do. This is every night. We wake up at 6am. Not like he shouldnt be tired because I sure as hell am. If I go in there and lay in bed with him he tries to play. I don’t want to let him cry it out but idk what to do. The doctor told me to stop giving him his sippy at night but if I take that away he cries even more.

I’ve been looking after my niece whose 2 and her mum said she wouldn’t go to sleep either. However, I read on a blog to try coaxing her to sleep through quiet rest and reading. So I put her to bed and tell her I’ll come back in 10 minutes and read her a story if she lays quietly. she has to lay quietly on the bed with her favourite teddy and she’s allowed to play with it without making noise. After 10 minutes I go in and read a short story of my choosing. Then I say I’ll be back in 15 minutes and if you’re still awake and you’ve laid quietly I’ll read you another story. 
I’ve only once had to read two stories, usually by the second time she is fast asleep. 
If she doesn’t lie quietly and play with her teddy, i gently remind her to lay quietly and tell her the timer starts again. 
Just for context this little miss is very strong willed and yet she responded very well. Had her overnight with her two sisters used the same method on all three and they were all fast asleep earlier than their parents expected 😂😊

Try Moshi Twilight.. it’s full of sleep stories, music, and sounds. My children love it!! Helps them fall asleep faster and even if you just want them to lay down and rest so you can take a little break .. this does the job 😊 Hope this helps!

I got my 2 year old to sleep in his toddler bed throughout the night by letting him cry it out. What I also do is lay him in bed and stay in the room till he falls asleep. I understand you not wanting to let him cry because I was the same way but your baby knows that you will go in the room every time he cries so he does it. I would suggest giving him his sippy cup an hour before he goes to bed. I do this with my son.

We did cio at about 14 months. It took a while the first night with lots of reassurance to a little the next night to us being able to tuck him in awake and leave without him even crying. He just goes to sleep. He gets a snack and we let him watch an episode of Paw Patrol (we really limit screen time) and then he brushes teeth, goes upstairs and reads books. He starts winding down at 7, is in bed by 8, and sleeps until 6 or 7 the next morning when he hears us up for work. A lot of mornings I have to wake him up to go to the sitters.

my son is almost two and he used to refuse to sleep. I spend 15-20min rocking him in my chair and just snuggling/chatting in the dark (minus a night light). He gets sleepy, has time to wind down and bow when I lay him down to sleep, he stays laying down and says “nighnigh”. He is still in a crib though so i know that will be different. At first he would “cry” his fake wail just to get my attention and when I didn’t give in, he would fall asleep in about 5-10min. We have 3 stuffies in his crib and he plays/talks with them now until he passes out.
