My ex told me I’m in the way

My ex boyfriend and I were best friends for about 4 years, dated for almost 2, and have been broken up for about 1 1/2. He’s been dating a new girl for several months and originally he told me he had no feelings for her and was just messing around. I expressed some concern. Suddenly, he told me he’s deeply in love with her and I am in the way of his happiness. Obviously an argument ensued and I told him we shouldn’t talk anymore despite him wanting to continue being friends. Well, I have to see him in a few weeks to give his things back (I was never able to since I moved away) and I know he’s going to try to “fix” things. I should note that he’s done a lot of bad things and consistently lies to me, and I have forgiven but not forgotten. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
