Taxes

After reading the comments on the post about free post secondary, and how people were saying it wouldn't be good because countries are in debt and it'd mean paying higher taxes. For those people who think that, I encourage you to go to the website

Sweden.se

It outlines and describes what it's like to live in Sweden, a country that provides free education up to a PhD and literal "cradle to grave" support for every citizen.

While they do pay a maximum of 60% in individual federal taxes(Canada pays around 50%, the US pays 55%, and the UK pays 45%), they do receive a massive amount of social programs such as 480 days of paid parental leave, free childcare for child over the age of 1, a monthly allowance for every child until 16, a pension that gets funded from the day you start working, comprehensive healthcare, and state funded funerals.

In addition, they have an incredibly successful economy and a debt of only $160 billion(Canada's debt is $810 billion, US debt is $18 trillion and UK debt is 2.5 trillion).

The unemployment rate is 7.8%, with a poverty rate of 9.1% in 2014.

Food for thought for those that say taxes and welfare are bad.
