Lasik eye surgery?

Hey ladies. 
 So, I have terrible eyesight. I cannot just wake up and wait a while to put my contacts in, I have to either have them or my glasses right beside me. It’s been that way since my early teens. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for the vision that I DO have. My eye doctors had told me that it would level out when I hit around 25....but I’m 33 and I swear it seems like it’s gotten worse. I have an appointment for an exam, and of course I’ll talk to my doctor about it. But I’m just wondering if anyone has had lasik, and what your experience was? Are you put under during the procedure? Anyone had it done and have it not work? 
It’s stressful to think about doing...but so is waking up every morning and not being able to see. If my kids have an emergency, I can’t help until I can see. 
Any thoughts would be so appreciated!

I had it when I was 22, I am 33 now and my vision is still 20/20. Best decision ever . It was very quick , 45 seconds of actual laser time each eye, total time in OR was 15-20 mins. Follow the instructions perfectly and you’ll have no issues . I highly recommend it .

Optometrist here, I see quite a lot of people that have had lasik or other refractive errors corrected by surgery, of course I only see the ones that have complaints(the others don’t need to see me for obvious reasons) the main problems or complaints I most often hear: 
Dry eyes especially during the winter and when reading or using a computer. Only solution is to use comfort drops (or minimize the time spent in front of a computer, not the easiest to avoid for most) 
“I can see fine without glasses/contacts, but not as super duper clear as I used too” it’s not always possible to correct your eyes 100%, and your eyes will continue to change regardless of having surgery done or not. This is one of the reasons it’s advised to wait til you are older to get it done. The surgery will also leave a scar on your cornea, so many struggle with seeing halos around lights etc. this cannot be fixed with glasses. (Think how it is to see through your old glasses, they work but they aren’t as good as your new one) 
Presbyopia will happen when you hit 40-45, so you will need reading glasses. The alternative is to leave one eye slightly more nearsighted (monovision) so you can read, but this makes it worse at distances. 
Some may never use contacts again after a surgery, since the surgery change the shape of the cornea they just don’t fit right. Some also get so dry eyes that contacts isn’t longer an option, even though the cornea is the correct shape. 
Even though they say they will operate til it’s”perfect” it’s not always possible to operate a second time. 
If you are nearsighted the risk of retinal detachment I still there, as the eye is still as long as before. 
Not the meaning to scare you, it’s just good to know the not so pretty side too.

I had it. You’re awake the entire time. The whole thing takes about 5-10 minutes and then it’s over. The first 2-3 days of recovery are not fun and your eyes are going to be quite upset. I got PRK instead of the lasik. Look up the difference so you can understand, but both use the later light to correct the vision. 
Honestly, it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. My vision was -7.00 in both eyes. I could not make out objects, print, or anything else if it wasn’t directly in front of my face. I have 20/20 vision now. No more contacts or glasses. I feel pretty again. I don’t feel embarrassed of my thick lenses anymore. 
But with every procedure, there are risks. So make sure you discuss those risks with your surgeon. 
The recovery isn’t too bad. Like I said, your eyes will just be very upset with you. I couldn’t see much the third day and it was very uncomfortable to keep my eyes open. So I just had my sister come over and I laid in bed listening to the television and she just helped me with a few things. I did wake up with my eyes burning like hell a few times but they give you pain drops, artificial tears and antibiotic drops that help a lot.
