When can I test

Question

Do I wait 1week or 2weeks after unprotected sex? (currently at 1week). Also why do people say wait until you’re late for your period? Like that would just take important decision time away from me?!? I want to know ASAP so I can seriously think long and hard about which decision is next
Edit* my period is extremely irregular, I get it some months and others it’s just off on holiday

Wait until you miss ur period basically bc if you are pregnant it takes time for the pregnancy hormone to build up to become detectable on a test. You also have less chances of using and wasting tests, if you are pregnant. I would rather wait, than have to try and deal with the stress of getting negatives for testing too early let alone the costs of the tests. Of course you don’t want to wait too long but the longer the better and one week almost isn’t enough time for ur body to do everything it needs to and show up on a test. Sperm can also live inside of you for up to five days. Personally I would wait until I missed my period by at least a week, but then again I’m pretty regular so. Give it another week and then test.
