Is it possible to love someone from a distance

Is it okay to have been in a relationship with someone that you loved/ still love. (Because I feel like when you really love someone you never actually stop loving them.) and still keep in contact with them because you still have that special bond, Just don’t work out romantically. Like if the two people move on with their lives is it weird to still have the person you love In your life even though it didn’t work out romantically? Idk if this makes sense.lol
