What would you do

This is a real experience...my family thinks it's funny, his family thinks it's funny and I'm over here like having ptsd. 
So my mother in law wanted to take me shopping. I of course said yes! Shes fun to hang out with and I honestly thought nothing of it when we left. We were in her Tahoe and went to a couple stores including kohl's and ross. Well....we get to a busy intersection and as we were crossing it she stopped in the middle of this busy intersection with all these cars coming....I remember looking and seeing these cars like maybe 4 car lengths away and she was just stopped in the middle. I screamed Go! What are you doing?!
She turns to me and says, if they hit us, theyll die...itll be okay and floored it and made it across just in time. I was out of breath. 
I drove us home. She acted normal the whole day and after that. I told my husband about it and he was like ha! Good ole mom.... WHAT?! How would you feel/react?
My mom thought it was funny too and showed how ballsy she could be....mind you I was in the passenger side that would've been hit first...am I crazy for feeling a little post traumatic stress disorder from this?

There is nothing funny about this and people like this should not be driving. Someone could have easily been killed.
I would never be getting in a car with this woman again.

You’re not wrong for being scared but please don’t use “ptsd” lightly like that. You were scared, you didn’t get a serious mental illness that many war veterans and rape victims experience. Please don’t compare to that.

Had an ex that would drive fast and dangerous when he was mad, which could happen in a split second over nothing. Being in a car during situations where your health could have easily been effected is definitely traumatic and can have a lasting effect. Traffic in general sends me into a panic now and something like that would have left me crying hysterically. It's not funny. Risking your life or the people in the car with you is not funny. I would never get in a car with her again after something like that

This sounds like a normal stress response, which may or may not lead ￼to PTSD. Anyway… It’s easier for you to see the severity of what happened, because you were in the car and afraid for your life....it’s easy for her to say it wasn’t serious because she doesn’t want to take accountability. ￼￼bottom line is you are not overreacting, you both could’ve been killed. I don’t think it’s nice for them to laugh about it and make you feel as if something serious didn’t happen. That’s called gaslighting and if I were you I would talk to them and say “hey, my feelings are real and my experience was real and I expect you all to respect me enough to care about that.￼”

It’s not funny at all. My grandma used to make me cry because she’d do shit like this and then act like there was nothing wrong. One time she was passing a car going like 90 and there was a semi heading toward us, didn’t look like we were going to make it and she just laughed it off. Eventually I stopped riding anywhere with her if she was driving. Someone could have been seriously injured or lost their life. We all handle stress differently so it’s also totally fair for you to be feeling traumatized over it. They all need to grow up and realize how much of a tragedy that could’ve been.

When we were in a car accident about 3 years ago I had PTSD from it. I had a lot of trouble being in a car when I was the passenger. It happened on vacation and we had to go back with my parents because our car was totaled. We were in my dads truck and I remember holding my husbands hand and flinching every time my dad had to break. I even threw up when we stopped at a rest stop because my anxiety was so high it was making me sick. I had a follow up with my doctor back home (I was 24 weeks pregnant) the day we went home despite having been taken by ambulance to the local hospital. My doctor mentioned PTSD and the hospital had given me papers about it and what to watch out for. It’s actually normally for people in accidents to experience PTSD for a certain amount of time after the incident. Mine did go away and I feel fairly back to normal now.

My husband, me, and my then 2 month old daughter, were in a wreck when someone thought they could pull out. Could have killed us. I have PTSD from it. There's no way in he'll I'd get in a car with her. What if someone did hit her and there was a small baby in the car? Fuck her.
