Very confused 🤷‍♀️

I was talking to a guy for 3ish months, we go to uni together. We weren’t physical in any way, but we talked everyday, in person and online. We told each other we liked one another.

Then in the holidays he seemed distant, (when in conversation it felt more like ping pong than a proper conversation) I just assumed when we got back to school it would get better.

But once at school he didn’t talk at all, he kinda just ignored that we were ever in a thing.

I was talking to one of my friends (who is close friends with him) and she told me that he called her in the holidays and talked, for 2 hours, about me and how he was scared about asking me out.

I got the sense that he no longer liked me, so I asked my friend and she informed me that he didn’t like me.

(I don’t doubt that he doesn’t like me) but he keeps staring at me, and occasionally winking.

My other friends have no clue why he’s acting so weird and have told me that last term when they talked to him he said he really liked me, wanted to ask me out and was scared of loosing me.

I’m confused at what I did wrong that made him stop talking to me?

And should I ask him about this?

(It’s been 8 weeks since he first started acting weird)
