Boyfriend Overspending

Sarah

I recently took a significant pay cut when I took my dream job after a layoff. I only make about $800 a month now with a lot of other little perks. Anyway, my boyfriend cannot adjust his spending at all. He still eats out everyday for breakfast and lunch. Yesterday he spent an undisclosed amount amount of money on a new cell phone, and I am being left to pay for everything on my TINY paycheque. He easily makes double if not triple what I do and yet I am paying all the bills and can’t even afford to stop for coffee with friends. Last night we were buying his parents Christmas presents and at the till he said oh by the way you’re getting. Before we went we agreed that he would pay since I have paid for everything for both our families so far. Now I have $200 to buy gas and groceries, insurance and all of that for two whole weeks. I was completely embarrassed at the til and now I am majorly stressed about our power getting cut off or worse. He says “its only $125” but to me that’s a huge amount of money. I don’t know what to do to get him to a) see the value of money and b) to make a budget and stick to it.
