Can you consent to sex if you are drunk? Trigger warning

I have seen this topic debated before. I think if you aren’t already in a long term committed relationship it’s best to not have sex with someone under the influence. But there is also the fact that spouses gf/bf can be raped or taken advantage of too. So in marriages or long term committed relationships it’s best to discuss boundaries with this.

It’s actually a tuff topic to debate because being drunk is not always obvious. I know for a fact I can be blacked out drunk and people have no clue I’m actually drunk enough to not remember what happened.

I am married and my husband knows I am completely comfortable having sex with him if I’m drinking/drunk.

But before I was with my husband when I was 15 I got drunk for the first time. I had sex for the first time with a guy a barely knew. I didn’t really remember the night only bits and pieces but knew we had sex. That was something I regret.

But can people consent to sex while drunk? Does their relationship status matter? Or their drunkness level? (even though sometimes how drunk someone is is impossible to know)

I do want to say I’m not talking about passed out drunk there is no debate about that being wrong..
