How do I confront my bf about this?

So, my bf & I were in the grocery store today picking up a few things. We picked up a lot of things but didn’t have a basket because they were all taken. My bf said he needed a febreze air freshener for his car, so we go pick one up. He said he didn’t want to pay that much for it (I forgot the price), because it was probably cheaper in target, but he held onto it.

We’re walking down another aisle, but he gets real close behind me, I’m really short & he’s 6’5 so I could see his shadow behind me. I turn around & said “what are you doing?”, & he said he was fixing his pants. We finish picking up everything, now going to check out & he says “oh I’m not going to get the air freshener” & he turns around as “if” he’s putting it back. I said to him “you don’t want me to get it for you?” & he says, no.

What I’m getting at is I believe he stole the air freshener. Something in my gut is telling me he did. I’m hoping & praying he did not, because I’m not with that AT ALL. I have never stolen anything in my life.

One reason why I believe he stole it, is because of the way he came behind me & I wasn’t able to see him actually put it back. However, the main reason why I believe he stole it, is because we had a convo the other day (it wasn’t about stealing) but, he said I don’t take risks. He, kind of used stealing as an example & said that I would go crazy if he stole something & I said you’re damn right!

I said to him, who does that? You know right from wrong & if you have the money & someone in your life (like me), who is willing to pay for something, you have no excuse. He’s 31 for God’s sake. I just don’t get it.

So, after all of this idk how to confront him about the situation, because I’m not 100% sure, & I don’t want to accuse him if he didn’t, but it’s bothering me so much. Idk what to do.
