Marriage License...

My bf and I are at a crossroads. When we initially got together, I knew that he wanted a prenup and he knew that I wanted to get a marriage license. We had back and forth conversations about it but eventually came to the conclusion of I would sign the prenup if he agreed to sign the marriage license. Boom. Both parties are happy and satisfied. That was a few months ago.

Now, like a month ago he told me that he changed his mind about the marriage license and that I don’t have to sign the prenup and now we’re back at square one. I grew up with everybody getting a marriage license and legally being married. I feel like I would be a forever baby mama or a forever girlfriend and I would just be changing my name to change it. Not because I’m actually somebody’s wife and he’s saying that a marriage license is just something the government came up with and that it’s just a contract and doesn’t define our relationship. And that I wouldn’t be just a forever baby mama to him and that I shouldn’t worry about what anybody else says.

I’m just conflicted so much. He’s not budging on the marriage license and I feel like he blindsided me with this after we came to an agreement. So even though he hasn’t said it, I’m smart and I know that I only have two options: stay with him and just accept that I won’t get a marriage license how I thought or I leave him and find somebody else to get a marriage license with. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ idk what to do. I obviously want to be with him and I want to build my life with him and build our family but I would have to get over the fact that I won’t get a marriage license.

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated. If anybody has been in this situation, how’d it work for you? Or if anybody has any take or opinion on having a marriage license vs not having one?
