Give a girl baby a masculine middle name? (My surname)

Question

My husband and I aren’t agreeing on the surname.  I did not take his because his ex wife kept the name and frankly I’m a feminist who loves my own strong Scottish name.   I don’t care for his very much.   He has a son already with his name.   I suggested giving our baby my name and he blew up.    I’m willing to compromise, he is not.   Since middle names usually aren’t a big deal, would it be reasonable to give the baby girl my surname as a middle name?   It would be something like Lilian Duncan George.  Instead of giving her a feminine name like Lilian Ivy George and losing my name altogether.  Husband does not want to hyphenate.

I think using your name as a middle name and giving her his last name is an excellent compromise.

Sounds like a good idea and a great compromise. I have a masculine middle name (not a surname, but a name that’s typically a man’s first name), and I think it’s the coolest thing ever.

If my next baby is a girl she will have James as a middle name since thats my dads name. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a masculine middle name. Personally I think middle names should be used more to honor family and tradition.

I like your idea. I think it’s kinda selfish for him to not be ok with her getting your name but instead only getting his 🤷‍♀️. My son has my last name and his dad’s last name, AND I kept my name when I got married (my husband’s Venezuelan and that’s the tradition in Latin American countries, which I think is less sexist and I was always going to do it that way anyways. It was just a plus that he didn’t give two fucks about me taking his last name or giving my last name to our son).

My daughter has a masculine middle name.  I love Duncan for her middle name!! 
I also moved my own surname to my middle name when I married my husband.

My middle name is my mom's maiden name, my children's name is her maiden name. I like it and appreciate the value of her name.

My mother hyphenated my middle name with the name they chose and then her maiden name. It is occasionally a challenge if paperwork doesn’t acknowledge hyphens but have two middle names makes for good conversation! 
Give her as many names as are important to you.

My daughter shares her father and grandfathers middle name. It was important to us to carry on that name and the middle name really only matters when filling out paperwork.  I personally dislike hyphenated names (I’m a teacher and it’s a pain trying to teach kids to spell a crazy long name!)

I have my dad’s middle name as my middle name (Scott). If I ever have a daughter I either want her to have my husbands first name (Justin) as her first name with a feminine middle name or a feminine first name with my middle name. I personally love masculine names for girls.
