Has anyone tried this?? (HSG)

Question

My husband and I have been trying to conceive since July with out luck unfortunately. My friend was talking to be about a certain test that DRs can perform a hysterosalpingogram otherwise know as HSG. 
​Any information would be helpful at this point. I am expected to get my period on Tuesday if we didn't become successor last time around. Just looking to give it a hundred percent

I had one in December. My doc warned me it was painful and told me to take something before I went (I took an aleeve). I didn't find it painful at all! I don't know if it was because of the medicine, or whether I just was lucky or what. It was a little uncomfortable (like a long Pap smear) as they positioned the instruments, but then the actual shot of dye takes a couple seconds.  I bled a bit for the rest of the day, but otherwise had no pain.

​They're looking to find a blockage in the tubes. Apparently if there is one, sometimes the shot of dye can open it up temporarily. Mine luckily was normal :)

I had one last cycle, along with starting Clomid. No BFP last cycle, but I heard it can improve fertility for a few months after the procedure. Hoping for a BFP this cycle :) I'll add that it was pretty painful, my regular GYN/OB did mine at the hospital. Once the cervix is dialated it's pretty easy, but the balloon part is what hurt me the worse. It just felt like really really bad AF cramps. My sister had it and it caused her no pain. I don't know if it's because she has given birth before and I haven't. Or maybe I just have a really tight cervix, but it was definitely painful.

Mine was very painful, but I believe it was due to a resident doctor having difficulty. When the senior doctor stepped in, it wasn't as bad, but still painful. Showed a possible blockage in my left tube. For me, it was more emotional. Hubby wasn't allowed in with me. It was also my first experience with a male doctor. Not good.

I had an HSG on New Years Eve. If all goes easy, it's not that uncomfortable. Take some Tylenol or Advil an hour before hand. Ask your doctor to numb your cervix. It will feel similar to what an IUI feels like. I, unfortunately, have a long cervix, so we had to do 3 tries, which took about a half hour and we still didn't get the uterus to fill up all the way enough to see the dye spill into the tubes. I don't have known fertility issues, so we stopped after the 3rd try. I had moderate discomfort the rest of the day, but nothing worse than menstrual cramps. I am doing natural cycle IUI with frozen sperm and I wanted the HSG to make sure we weren't wasting our time/money. Just had my 2nd try yesterday.   Good luck! It's really not that bad.
