Can your boss force you to work with a notice of less than 24 hours?

My boss was supposed to post the schedule last Thursday for this week
 I messaged her and she says she's working on it. I can't even plan accordingly because I don't know when I'll work and I'm assuming these next days are off since no schedule has been made. But I'm wondering if I'm working the 26th or 27th because a friend wants me to drive her out to the airport but at this point I doubt my boss is going to send us this week. 
Side note: my job consists of training for a new facility so that's why I'm not stressing why no work week has been posted because I know she's been dealing with permits and the equipment arriving. I've asked my other co-workers in my team and no one has gotten a message from her yet.

What does your policy manual say? Either way, I would not agree to working with that little notice if I had made plans that conflicted with the time she schedules you. If you’re training, you are obviously a valuable employee. You most likely don’t have to put up with that if you tell her no you have plans if that’s what you want to do unless you are getting paid to basically be on call.

Nobody can ever force you to work, that's my take. 
It's possible they'll fire you if you don't, but your boss should have had the schedule out. I don't think they'll be able to fire you, but I don't know how your company works. My company, you can get away with a lot.

My husband has to legally have the schedule done 24 hours in advance for his employees. Not sure if it's a state thing or a company thing,  but he has to have the schedule posted for 24 hours before it starts.
