So originally I had told my mother that she could be in the room while my baby was born along with my SO but I've changed my mind and not sure how to tell her. Would it be wrong of me to go back on my word?

I love my mom more than anything but I fear that she will stress me out when I’m in labor and I’ll end up saying mean things to her (I can be a total hothead haha). I told her how I felt and my worries and that I wanted just my husband and me in the room and she was so understanding! I thought it’d hurt her feelings or something but she was really appreciative of my honesty. I’d just be up front if you can and no matter what it’s your choice so do what’s in your own best interests.

I was in the same boat except I don’t have a great relationship with my mom and when she started talking to me again she had all these plans and wanted to be in the room and one day I just told her I don’t feel comfortable with that my mom can be overwhelming and I don’t deal well with pain and I know I’m probably gonna me mega bitch 😭😭😭 in labor and I didn’t wanna snap at her during and I just want it to be a more private thing I also thought I wanted my aunt there because I have a better relationship with her but I actually don’t want anyone there besides me and my bf my mom was upset at first and I think she thought she could guilt trip me or keep asking and I would give in but I flat out told her no this is my decision and she needs to respect it and she hasn’t brought it up since

I think shes going to be disappointed but it's better you be honest with her sooner than later. 
Also, while its totally up to you to have who want in there with you, let me tell you that having 2 people was a God send for me. My labor was 26 hours and my husband would need to leave so he could get food, stretch his legs, or sleep. So having my best friend there to fill in and keep my mind right was exactly what i needed.  Ill be having my husband and my mother this time around. But like i said, it's totally up to you

Tell her you went to the hospital tour (which I totally recommend actually doing) and they recommended maybe just one person in there. OR you can be upfront and just say you and your SO want to spend this time alone. She can totally come after but you want bonding time.
