Do you pay your children for report cards?

You dont get rewarded for doing things you're supposed to. Children need to learn how to be proud of themselves without needing monetary compensation. My parents never rewarded me except 1 time a year I got a special dinner IF and only if I kept those grades the whole year

When the time comes, I plan on giving praise and maybe baking some cookies or something fun for her if the grades are really good. Money becomes an expectation if you start and better grades they will expect better money (at least, that’s my worry).

Not yet. My oldest daughter is 8 and in second grade. She’s a grade ahead and a straight A student though. She earns $5 every Friday for keeping up with her chores plus $1 if she gets a 100 (not 99) on her spelling tests. When she’s in middle school I thought about paying her $50 for her report card (not progress report) for only straight As. I don’t see anything wrong with rewarding a straight A student for working hard and staying out of trouble. I wish I had that incentive when I was in school.

I never knew this was a thing because I didn't grow up with this. It wasn't until my GMIL told my 10 year old if she brought her C to a B she would give her $20...and she actually did bring it up. I always just praised her before this and she was good with that. But maybe like others said, I'll start with the dinners/fun places..but I don't think I'll ever do money..

We celebrate a good report card (dinner out skate land something like that) but they don’t get paid for them.

We plan to do what my family did growing up - fancy dinner out as a family. Maybe see a movie together. No actual cash. 
Grades should be rewarded, but realistic. I’m not shelling out $100 report card for babe to buy more stuff.

As a teacher, I hate this practice. Kids should be complimented and told you are proud of them for their good effort and areas of improvement not for grades. Not all kids learn the same and definitely not all kids are taught or graded the same. Also, the reward for your work in school is knowledge, not money. I can see go out for ice cream after good parent conferences and things like that but actually paying them for grades (which are very subjective and really arbitrary) is just silly.

I was raised thag we could only have more As than Bs. However I was an extreme perfectionist and ONLY wanted As, and loved the praise that came with them. We got report card presents. I always thought I’d give them until I birthed this baby. 
My husband and I talk in depth often about how we will raise our child in regards to grades and schooling. We just want them to learn good study/learning habits and to always try their best. I think putting such pressure on perfectionism does so much damage.
Plus, as a high school teacher, I LOVED the kids who could get an average grade, or even a bad grade, and take it with a smile and be honest about their efforts! “Dang, I tried hard but I just didn’t understand it yet” or “yep, I really didn’t pay attention this week so I didn’t pick it up” were SO much better to work with than “OMG I got an A- *sobs for ten minutes*”

I’m in the U.K so we don’t really have a thing about grades on young children. What if a child struggles in maths or something and gets a low grade? Or is their effort taken into account in grades? As long as they are trying their best that’s all that matters.
