Epidural with scoliosis
I was first diagnosed with scoliosis in the 5th grade, so I’ve been occasionally getting treatment for it for the last 15 years. During my sophomore year in high school, it got progressively worse & I was recommended to a chiropractic specialist that deals with severe cases of scoliosis. I wore a back brace that pretty much straightened up my curve around my shoulder blades but it did nothing for the curve in my lumbar region. I was told that not only was my spine curved, but the individual vertebrates themselves were twisting and taking my nerves with them.
Knowing this, I brought up my concerns for an epidural to my OB since my chiropractor said it could be tricky & he just said to me that anesthesiologists are very skilled and know how to deal with this (not very reassuring). I’ve always told myself that I want to have an epidural-free labor to avoid any long-term risks. However, I know labor doesn’t always go as planned sometimes, so I want to try to prepare myself mentally as that being an option. So I want to know what you momma’s labor experiences were with scoliosis similar to mine (or scoliosis in general really) whether or not you had an epidural & what side effects you may be experiencing after childbirth as a result of getting an epidural.
