Should/ Does traffic stop for a funeral progression?

So I come from a big city in North Carolina, USA. I remember growing up my parents stopping their car and others around us stopping for a funeral progression even if it wasn't in our direction.. we stopped until the last headlight lit car passed...

Today I noticed those in my city doesnt do that abymore. You have the c as rs that stop because of police escort but not the traffic going in the opposite direction.. I was told it was respect and courteous to stop as a child. Have things changed? Do people stop in your area? Should the law define what to do in case of a police escorted funeral progression?
