Health insurance.

Ann • Hello!

Hello ladies, I need some help. My hubby and I are in a hard place as far as insurance goes. I'm a stay at home mom (full time) to our 17 month old so I can't really work outside the home. Our problem is my hubby's work provide insurance but its expensive!!! We had golden rule for a while but they don't cover maternity care! ( I lost that pregnancy). We're looking online for long term reasonable insurance and that is not government help...( hubby won't even qualify). What insurance do you have? That covers the whole family including maternity care?

Healthcare is sooo expensive. Would your hubby consider switching jobs to someone who covers it?

We have Kaiser, and we love it. It’s not every where though.

A piece of advice for when you do find a new insurance, every year around tax time, pay your deductible. My dad told me that so I wouldn't have to worry about it thoughout the year. How old is your husband? Has he thought of military for coverage?

Or just keep money in an HSA. I don't reach my deductible so not sure that would benefit me😅

Health insurance is a damn mess. My husband and I have Tricare, and I can not be any more thankful for it. I wish universal health care was a thing 😒

Oh insurance is ridiculous, not even sure why we have it. So we pay $545 for a family of 3. We want another but we would be paying $745 a month then. We also pay out of pocket till our deductible is met. Our deductible is $15,000 for our family. So we use a health savings account just not to pay taxes on paying that. I was speaking to my mom about this and she was talking about how for our family of 4 growinf up they paid $150 a month and everything but a deductible of $1,000 was covered. That is a huge difference in 20 years.I have no advice but I think we are all in the same boat. We cannot afford child care and for me to work. We also cannot afford health care. There is a reason that people are not having larger kids or even kids at all. So I am a stay at home mom and we hope in the future when our kids are in school I can get better insurance and go back to work.I have a girlfriend once say the only people who can afford big families are those on assistance or multi millionaires.

We did meet our deductible this year after having a baby. We made sure to get in for every random doctor visit we could lol. My husband saw a chiropractor every week just because he could. Honestly though we would make that deductible again if I were to get pregnant. That thought scares me.

We are just having kids and we will find a way. We have no debt other then our home and own 20+% of that so we are just trying to live frugally. We did make our deductible this year having a baby

We pay $700/month now. And I don't know what our family plan will be. I imagine maybe another $150-200 more?? I personally think that's expensive, but i know it's all relative so might not be for you. It's BCBS. (We spent about 40k on top of that in 2019 for IVF so that was fun)🥴PS are you from Shawnee, KS or a different Shawnee?😅

We buy it on the exchange for me and the kids and my husband has a cost sharing plan that we found through a broker. He has Aliera and pays around $275 a month- because it’s cost sharing it doesn’t cover mental health, substance counseling, or maternity (he doesn’t need any of that). I pay $698 a month for Fidelis gold (full maternity and a $600 deductible and a $500 co-payment for hospital birth). I used to pay $400 for bronze but my deductible was $4000 and every doctors visit was costing me about $120 after the insurance negotiated rate. So I upped my coverage for this year since I’ll be using it a lot. My kids have Fidelis Child Health Plus and I pay $420 a month for them both. So about $1400 for my family of 4. My husbands job offers insurance but it’s a joke. He works for a small business and it would cost us about $2000 a month. This is our biggest struggle as a single income household. When I worked we were under my insurance and it cost us about $500 a month. But I would be basically working to pay for childcare and not much else.
