I'm struggling to accept that fact that I have oral herpes. It's really starting to eat at me physically and emotionally. I need advice from those who have been in my shoes. How did you get through it.

90% of the population has been exposed to it. Some people's immune system handles it better than others. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
If you are getting outbreaks often go to the dr and ask him for a prescription for Valtrex. When you feel one coming on, and it's still tiny on your lip, pop a Valtrex. Within a few hours it will go away and you will avoid the outbreak.

Ask your doctor or gynecologist about valtrex! I have had cold sores since I was little and have always been so ashamed my whole life. I always feel like people assume because i get a cold sore that I have genital heroes as well. I do not, but the constant anxiety having the virus brings can be debilitating. My ob recommended valtrex to me, you take it when you feel the itch/tingle and then never get the sore. Knock on wood I haven’t had a cold sore in almost two years since being able to take the valtrex at the onset of symptoms and it has really helped me mentally. People suck, I used to hide in the house when I had a cold sore.

Babe I have oral herpes but I haven’t had an outbreak for almost 10 years. I used to get them around my mouth when I was a kid but now nothing. If I ever get that tingle feeling I put a load of cold sore cream on it preemptively and it just disappears, never becomes a cold sore.
AND I also have contracted the same strain HSV1 (oral) on my genitals!! I let a guy eat me out when he had a massive cold sore (dumb I know I was young) and when I had that outbreak I thought my life was over!! But its been 10 years and I have never had a single outbreak after that first one . 
It’s scary but I promise you’re not alone and it’s not as bad as you think -yes the virus is in your system forever but your body is incredible, your immune system is totally capable of keeping it under control after the first outbreaks and it can just stay dormant forever. 
When I was freaking out the first time I called a hotline and the woman really helped me, I’d recommend doing that if you can.

I'm sorry you're so stressed! But girl you are so NOT alone! It is a very common virus. 1 in 4 people have either HSV 1 or HSV 2. Check out the Adam Ruins Everything on Herpes on YouTube. And do some research. Reach out to your local planned parenthood they can help explain and ease your concerns. You are normal and you are beautiful. You are going to be ok. I hope this helps! If you’re talking about cold sores, I know how you feel!  They are totally embarrassing but the percentage of people who have them are a large amount. 
If you get outbreaks often, I suggest carrying around a cream like Releev. The second you feel one coming on just put some medication on it (use a q tip) and sometimes it stops it dead in it’s tracks! If you see it too late then keep using the medicine and it will speed up the healing process. Don’t pick at it and don’t drive yourself crazy. It will go away soon 🙂

if you’re talking about herpes type 1 (cold sores), most people have it. i think around 67% of the world has it. no big deal! just make sure to not have oral sex while having a break out

😂 Funny post!  Take L-Lysine, and Cold sores are caused by stress, stress affects your immune system.  Take one tablet in the morning, and you will never have a cold sore in your life again, even when stressed.  Be thankful you don’t have genital herpes.

If you’re talking about cold sores, I break out when I’m stressed and girl for the past 4 years I never knew what to do. Now I have found Abreva and it works wonders when reducing the healing time and preventing it at the first tingle. I have missed days of work and school from embarrassment and this it liberating.
