Biting fingernails!?

Question

I bite my nails and the skin around them so bad idk if it’s anxiety or boredom or what but it hurts and I’ve quit before but next thing I know I have my fingers in my mouth again. Anyone else chew their nails this bad? Please don’t be rude

I used to be the same way. I researched the amount of bacteria on my fingers and nail beds, and it really grossed me out. I stopped biting them and after a week of consistent not biting I rewarded myself with a gel manicure. I now go every 3 weeks for a gel manicure and the gel polish makes them so thick that if I even attempt to bite they are so hard & it reminds me I shouldn’t & that they look so much better when I don’t.

I was a nail biter for my whole life up until almost 3 years ago! I knew it was gross and my hands looked horrible, I was secretly so insecure and would always find a way to hide my hands. 
I found getting acrylic on them and getting them balanced a few times so my real nails were long enough to go to gel dip powder. Now I dip my own nails at home, my favorite ME time to pamper myself and less cost. 
Now I’m to the point I can not have anything on my nails for a few weeks in between manis and I don’t have the urge to bite them anymore. It’s a hard habit to break and takes time but you got this!

I used to. Getting acrylic nails broke me of the habit! I still pick at my nail beds a bit but getting my nails done basically got me to kick the habit cuz I want to keep them nice. It was rewarding too when I was able to get my nails to grow out- now I just get gel manicures cuz I don’t bite them anymore.

Yes ma'am! It's very upsetting to me bc mine will look just like that (they do right now) and I will stop and grow my nails out and paint them and love how they look and something will trigger me and I will have them all bit off in minutes....and I HATE it.

Sure do. I have anxiety also. It looks so nasty when it’s wet 😩😩 ive managed to ditch nail biting completely. And I only bite & eat the skin on my thumbs 🥺 one day.. one day we’ll get over this nervous habit!

My SO does the same thing about as badly. I used to bite my nails, but I haven’t for about 9 years now. I don’t remember being that thorough, though.

Are you anemic? Like do you get enough iron. I have heard people with iron deficiencies tend to bite their nails. 
Outside that it probably is a habit you formed from anxiety or anything really....you'll have to work very hard to change it. Looks bad by the state of your nails.
