Can anyone help a girl out?

I'm in love with this amazing wonderful boy but people are always telling me that our relationship isn't going to last, we met though insta my friend introduced me to him and after an extremely short period of time we started dating, he and I would stop talking for short periods of time because of him personal life and the responsibilities he has with in it. Last January he got upset and we haven't spoke since then. He's got family issues and has bad mental heath. I've been waiting for him for over a year, I miss him so so much but I don't know what to do..
