How is high insulin treated?

I have a doctor's appointment later this week for this, but I just want to get a bit of insight in the meantime. In my case it's probably caused by my autoimmune disease, but it's the first time it's a problem (my levels are quite high).

My husband's insulin AND glucose is high too, diabetes runs in his family so I know for him he's going to have to look at his diet.

We don't actually eat badly and overdo it in the sugars (I don't even take sugar in my coffee, but we do go through a LOT of milk which I've read is a huge insulin spiker).

@Beth, no definitely high insulin. My glucose levels were normal, but my insulin was high.

@Arin thanks, we're going shopping this afternoon to replace our refined stuff for unrefined.

@Rose, thanks. I don't eat a whole lot in general and we go through maybe a loaf of bread a week between us, but my husband is a potato fiend so he's definitely going to have to cut down. I'm not a huge fan of potatoes.

@Jessizu, thanks. Yes they tested both insulin and glucose. Only my insulin was high, but in my husband his glucose and insulin was through the roof (and I can't control what he eats at work unfortunately, even when I make him lunch).
