Pediatricians....UPDATE

Christina

So a little while back, I brought my LO to his pediatrician for a weight check since we have been dealing with low/poor weight gain due to reflux, upper lip tie and posterior tongue tie. When she asked how many times he woke in the night to feed, she made me feel like a bad parent when I answered "he doesnt he sleeps through the night". Apparently it's wrong in her eyes that my 7-8 week old sleeps through the night and demanded I set alarms to wake him every 2 hrs. My first son was the same way. Slept through the night at 6 weeks old. Why is it that just because he sleeps all night, but is awake most of the day, pediatricians feel the need to question your abilities as a parent? She also said I'm failing to provide necessities of life because of it. Needless to say that was our last appointment with her, straight away I requested a different pediatrician. Ugh 😓 so frustrating sometimes. Thanks I just needed to vent. If you have any stories similar to mine I'd love to hear them! ❤

Edit: he has 2 lip ties and severe posterior tongue tie. These are being revised Monday via laser surgery.

For those who say wake him during the night. Yes we have tried that. He will not, I mean flat out refuses to eat if I wake him in the night to eat. He is also above average for his milestones. Except weight. My almost 6 YO was the same way he just hit 40lbs and wears size 7 clothes

UPDATE: So an update on my LO and our pediatrician nightmare. We had his lip tie (stage 2) and his tongue tie (stage 4) revised. And amazingly he gained 265 grams in 3 DAYS!!!!! His new pediatrician thought his scale was broken so we had to weigh him on another scale (same result). We had seen him 5 days prior to this weigh in, so he averaged out the gain over 5 days, at 52g a day! Normal/regular weight gain that they expect per day is 15-30g, and here we are almost doubling what they expect. I am so relieved that we finally have answers, and can finally relax knowing that was all that was causing his weight loss/lack of weight gain. He also now wakes up once or twice to eat during the night, which didn't happen before. Oh and I almost forgot, his reflux is no longer. We no longer have spit up everywhere, I dont have to worry about him choking on it in the middle of the night, and we can all have a good sleep.

Please, to all those moms and dads out there who have trouble with their LO gaining weight request a "flip-the-lip", do as much reading as possible about ties, for us it saved him being admitted again into hospital for copious amounts of testing and unnecessary IVs and pain.
