Host a baby shower?

Question

My best friend is having her first baby in August. I think she is waiting for me to offer to throw her a baby shower.  If I had the money, and a place to host, I would do it in a heart beat. I live in a modest townhouse, and would not be able to accommodate more than 10 people. 
Two years ago I threw her bridal shower, which set me back about $600, including the rental fee for the community clubhouse.  Three years ago I spent about $250 throwing her a surprise birthday party. I was happy to do those things, but now with a one year old, and less money, I feel guilty not offering. 
Both her and her in laws are local, but I haven’t heard if they will be planning anything. 
What would you do? If you would not, would you explain why, or just not say anything at all?

Maybe reach out to her family and see what they’re planning and if they want to team up?

Personally, I would only do it if I had the extra money for it. Dont go in debt. Obviously you can talk to her in laws or family to see what they are planning and maybe help with some of the games or food. I'm pregnant right now and I dont expect people to throw me a shower. If i want one I'll plan it, if someone offers that would be super nice of them and I'd be happy. But I'm not going to expect someone to go into debt for my shower.

I would bring up the baby and then be like I’m so upset I’m not able to afford to throw you a shower , I was really hoping I’d be able to !

If you cant afford it dont do it. If you think she is waiting for you to offer just straight up tell her in advance that you wish you could throw her one but you are broke. Offer to help if you can in other ways you can. She should be understanding.

No. she wants one really bad she can throw on herself one ..let her use her own money .do not waste your money on someone else.its a new century it's time for everybody to stop depending on other people to do things for them and do it themselves.

I would say ask her family to pitch in. Maybe her mom or grandma that you really want to throw her a shower but you can’t bare all the costs financially. 
I wouldn’t talk to mom to be about it. I don’t see anything wrong trying to get other friends or family members to pitch in.

She’s your best friend... talk to her. I ended up hosting my friends shower at her house & another friend of hers helped out. 
Let her know you want to help celebrate her, but your financial situation. Maybe someone else has mentioned wanting to host, but needing help, you never know unless you communicate.

That’s your best friend. Be honest with her.  Tell her you want to but can’t afford it.   I threw my BFF’s baby shower a while back and I didn’t really have it.  She wanted me to do it. I ended up cohosting with her sister and another close friend.  Keep it real
