Should I go back to a toxic “ex” ???? HELP ASAP

this guy i hooked up with over a year ago hit me up again and we kinda went our separate ways because 1) he wasn’t ready for a relationship 2) we had sex after i said no all while getting a girlfriend a month after this all happened. Now being it a year later i’ve reflected and I am a big person on change, growth, maturity and second chances, but he caused so much hurt even though I know genuinely it wasn’t his intention (do you ever know those ones who are toxic but it’s subconscious and not deliberate??) so I am very conflicted with wether I should give him another chance seeing he has reached out to me and apologized for what happened or not to because of all the pain he caused?
