Is this a lip tie?

My son is 7 weeks and it hurts a lot to breastfeed. He’s been gaining weight but is pretty gassy sometimes and wants to cluster feed almost constantly. FTM and I’m really worried.

Is there a notch at the gums where the teeth would come in? The notch would mean it’s severe and that’s not seen very often. Most babies are born with lip ties, but most outgrow them too. I thought I would need to get my daughters fixed, but she always fed well and gained weight. She’s almost 3 now and hers looked like yours. When her teeth started coming in, there was a small gap, but they’re perfect now. When she smiled you couldn’t even see her top teeth, thats resolved just in the past few months. Now the tie is migrating up to where it’s not even that close to her teeth. I’m happy we didn’t have it revised now. It would have been unnecessary. It totally corrected itself.

I’d say it is! My 9 day old had one and we just got the procedure done 2 days ago. It was honestly super easy and less than a min. We do have to do daily stretches now on her lip and tongue (she also had a tongue tie) for 3 weeks every hours. 
I’m also a ftm and know this is scary, but really it isn’t bad like it seems. The procedure was harder on me than on baby. I was bawling my eyes out and baby has been totally fine. Here is a pic of her lip tie:

I don’t know both my boys had it but it was under the tongue not on the top of the mouth

Yes it is. 
My daughter has a pretty bad one, and she’s 4.5. It didn’t cause any issues eating so I discussed it with a dentist and her pediatrician and we all decided to leave it alone for right now. And when she gets bigger, after she starts losing baby teeth, they will cut it so the adult teeth can grow in and fill the gap(she has a small gap between her top teeth)
